The mission of Kwansei Gakuin University is to be a ‘learning community without fences’, producing well-rounded ‘global citizens’ by fostering creativity and an international perspective in its students. We shall persevere in our goal of producing graduates with intellectual curiosity and the ability to think and act without the restrictions of convention, on the foundation of a solid and well-rounded basic education.
Contemporary society is characterized by globalization and this fact alone has raised hopes for the progress of humankind. The reality, however, is that problems on a global scale, such as economic crisis, war, and environmental degradation, far from disappearing, are actually becoming more widespread.
In this, the 120th year since its foundation, the University has created a School of Education through its merger with Seiwa University, and is preparing in 2010 to further establish its status as a truly international institution by establishing a School of International Studies. In this way the University will continue its search for solutions to the intractable problems that continue to face the world, while tackling the new problems of rapid globalization and technological innovation that confront the world in the 21stCentury.
The Reverend Walter Russell Lambuth, founder of Kwansei Gakuin, dedicated his life to global service, seeing the University’s role as “fostering citizens of the world who are disciples of Christ.” Never forgetting this mission, embodied in the school motto “Mastery for Service”, the University will continue to develop as an innovative and comprehensive educational institution with a truly global perspective.
